Are we seeking validation within our own black social media sphere? Yes, Issanother social media episode! Have we (via social media) created standards for black beauty and lifestyles? How are they affecting us? We gon talk about it!
It’s not just about looks…..
But of course, it’s that too. As Kiki said, everybody wants the same body. Which, to be honest, is sad. Why would we all want to look like everybody else? Individuality in blackness is beautiful! I’ll say it again
We don’t all have to have the thick ass, thick beards, most trendy protective styles, etc. We can be different. We don’t all have to be #melaninpoppin. We don’t all have to be woke as hell. It’s okay to be a “regular” black human.
Issa Lifestyle thing too….
Now look, we’re not saying there’s anything wrong with seeking the “Black American Dream” life. ( Business owner, black marriage, successful children , a house our houses, highly educated, etc). That’s a dope life and if that’s what you want then go for it! But go for it because you want it. Not because social media pressured you into it and especially not because you’ve compared your life to that of another person. Repeat after us:
Comparison is the thief of joy.
Don’t force yourself into a life you’re not ready for. Nothing’s worse than getting old and thinking “What if I did what I really wanted instead…..?
